ootd
Top: J.Crew Bettina in White Ash (also worn here and here)
Cardigan: J.Crew Jackie in Wild Mushroom
Earrings: made by me (tiny pearls on gold chains)
Skirt: J.Crew...tailored linen pencil skirt? in Wet Peat
Nude fishnets
Shoes: Cydwoq Category

Being linen, this skirt gets creased over the course of the day, but I love it too much (greyish-brown, textured). My Bettinas have held up well (got this and the Warm Taupe one in 2010).

I've concluded that Mondays are the worst possible days for wardrobe experimentation. Tuesdays are fine, mind you...and I actually like Mondays, deranged as it may sound, if only because no one else does, and the nascence of anything—even something prosaic as a work-week—should be special.

Tom Servo, part 2

ootd
Dress: Garnet Hill (also worn here and here)
Skinny belt
Shoes: Arche

Got this dress a while back, endeavoring to find one sack-y enough to wear a belt with. Back then there weren't many, and reviews for this dress complained about its "sack-like" aspect. It's held up well over many washings, proven quite versatile, is sufficiently heavy not to require ironing (and doesn't wrinkle easily), and actually has pockets. (This is the same belt I want to get in brown.)

ootd
Top: ASOS
Skirt: Stewart + Brown
Nude micro-fishnets
Shoes: J.Crew Camden brogues (black)

Basically the same outfit as here, only without boots and tights! I ditched the cardigan for the picture, as it finally got (relatively) smokin' hot today. This top feels cooler than it actually is, what with the butterflies and overall flowiness.

My favorite tune from the Butterfly:

Mariah Carey, "Make It Happen" (1992)

ootd

Top: J.Crew Suzette blouse in Night Floral
Cardigan: J.Crew
Skirt: gifted
Shoes: Cole Haan

I drew a blank on the name of this blouse—had gotten it a while back, when the 'Crew had percentage-offed Final Sale items—until locating it here: Review J.Crew. Isn't that a lovely site?

This is why J.Crew (or other intrepid outfitters) should carry more of this stuff. There is nothing handier than crinkled silk, preferably in a nifty print, to have hanging around for just such an occasion (we had a meeting, so I wanted to look nice).

* Something about this persistent "door" backdrop makes me feel like...The Doors, featuring Eddie Vedder(!):

I made the earrings (which you can't see) from rose quartz and little grey moonstones.

Which only goes to show ya, he who hesitates is...

...screwed! This colorway sold out the same day 'Crew dropped their 30%-off-final-sale-items sale. On the one hand, I can appreciate the wallet support (even with 30% off imo it's a tad overpriced)—yet, why don't they just make more crinkled-silk blouses in the first place? Or why don't more companies employ this (fabulous no-iron) material?

He was about to refer to the highly esteemed GOON SHOW!

I was reading some of The Goon Show on Wikipedia today... I had a vinyl record of it back in the day, and it struck me as funnier than Monty Python. :)

Even the description of how they met cracked me up:

[Spike] Milligan and Harry Secombe became friends while serving in the Royal Artillery during World War II. Famously, Milligan first encountered Secombe after Gunner Milligan's artillery unit accidentally allowed a large howitzer to roll off a cliff - under which Secombe was sitting in a small wireless truck: "Suddenly there was a terrible noise as some monstrous object fell from the sky quite close to us. There was considerable confusion, and in the middle of it all the flap of the truck was pushed open and a young, helmeted idiot asked 'Anybody see a gun?' It was Milligan." Secombe's answer to that question was "What colour was it?" Spike met Peter Sellers after the war at the Hackney Empire, where Secombe was performing, and the three became close friends.

Scarf: from a Japanese gift shop

Kind of hard to distinguish the scarf, but it has a pattern of fans on it, and each fan has a picture of a pretty girl doing something (fixing hair, reading a book, putting on makeup):

* I finally got new glasses. Yay! Been wanting to do this since forever...

Jacket: gifted (dark brown suede)
Skirt: gifted
Shoes: Cydwoq Category

Currently digging this belt (made in the U.S.; we appear to have a belt industry going on):

belt with ship buckle

plaid dress, belt with ship buckle

...and the dress, too, though I'm not sure I have much use for it. It's plaid, it's blue, it's a lot of things I'm a sucker for, and it's a shirt-dress, which I like. Hm. There should be a percent-off sale right about now, right? coughs

skinny belt

I'm jonesing for this skinny belt as well, but in brown leather with silver hardware.
