I'm blogging from Southern Cal! I like it down here.
Discovered this: Heavenly Couture
We don't have an "all items for $15 or less" store in Northern Cal! (Or if we did, it would be so crappy you wouldn't care to venture inside.) I got a cream-colored cotton-and-silk-blend vest, the front appearing almost like a scarf (long and diaphanous, no buttons), the back shorter and gathered. Also a long crinkled black cotton shirt with metal buttons, that came with a belt—not the greatest belt in the universe, but you could swap it out—it's belted low, on the hips. And a black bamboo knit top with mesh panels (you'd need a camisole or tank; contrasting color could be interesting).
(Weirdly none of these items appears on the site.)Labels: wardrobe

Yes! these are on sale...no idea for how long...but hey, I had a coupon, and I'd had it in mind to stock up some on these anyway.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Nightfall Blue I took a long hard look at this, what with the coupon and sale. Nightfall Blue in real life is more teal than photographed, but sufficiently blue not to look cheesy. I decided it was quite beautiful. It popped even when it was being rung up—I caught a glimpse of it against the SA as she was folding it, and it looked amazing "on" her too.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Platoon Green This is greener/less brown than in the pic. Not a true army green imo, but pretty close. I love army green, likely from having grown up in a military town.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Blanched Orchid This looked better on my daughter than on me. It's a tad less color and more smoky/neutral than pictured, but enough color to look pretty rather than drab. I love lavender with hazel eyes and dark hair.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Brick Wall This was underwhelming...I like red, and wish the tissue t-necks offered more red options, but this was a sort of faded depressing red.Labels: jcrew, wardrobe

Not to worry, I still care. :)
J.Crew Buffalo Check Shirtdress Much as I like the idea—a dress involving flannel and pockets, black-and-a-single-color check, this does remind me of pajamas. I haven't determined yet if that's a bad thing though?
I did get this a while back, but haven't brought it out yet:
J.Crew Flannel Tuxedo Tunic ...in the biggest size; it's a dress on me, not a tunic. The pintucking seems to keep it from appearing overly nocturnal.
NO, this isn't fug irl...it's a beautiful dark flecked charcoal, machine washable lambswool sweater. At least it was advertised as machine washable; I haven't washed it yet. I skipped Boden's, which was close to $150 for machine washable cashmere. Even with a discount...eh...do I care that much for cashmere? The sweaters I need to replace are lambswool, and they've lasted twenty years.Labels: clothing care, jcrew, wardrobe

Hi! Bleh, now it's dark when I get home from work, which is when I'd have normally taken my OOTD pics. I dislike indoor photography, but suppose I'll have to finagle something some time.
Today I did another software demo/training thing, so it was something like this:
...only with the cami's frill better-behaved (J.Crew Bettina, in "White Ash"). I've given up having it flop urbanely, as it does in my Warm Taupe version; different Bettina's frills flop differently, apparently, but I'm okay with that.
Along with, my Jackie cardigan in Pearl (worn many times), black Cole Haan flats (likewise), these earrings:
...which were, incidentally, inspired by a white azalea bush on Milvia (Berkeley). It's just this small, inconspicuous bush, but when it flowers, it's covered in tiny white stars.
This weekend I attended BADCamp, which is Bay Area Drupal Camp. I'd been to only one before, in 2009, but consider 2010 better. Some parts of it reminded me of college, in the good, programming classes sense (not in the dreary, required classes sense).
I should say, I was privileged to have studied under good programmers. Hard to describe unless you do it yourself, but there are times when you're on a different plane.Labels: jcrew, wardrobe

J.Crew Plaid Sundrine flannel shirtdress This was definitely too young for me. Dang! They had all three Sundrines at my local 'Crew (I went to Emeryville)...mmm...I tried the biggest size on the rack, which was an 8. It fit okay but struck me as ideal for someone under 30. It had a teeny pocket...oh, I'm only going to make myself crazy. :)
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Heirloom Pink Since tees and knits were on sale, I thought I'd scope out more tissue turtlenecks—one of my favorite 'Crew innovations. The light weight makes them work for our changeable weather...you don't end up sweating in the afternoon...but the turtleneck and long sleeves provide coverage in the morning, when you're, ah, freezing.
Heirloom Pink was a bit of a disappointment. It's less pink in real life, more a neutral shade too close to my skin color.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Nightfall Blue Nightfall Blue was more teal than pictured. I'd pondered buying both online, because of the sale, but was glad to see them in person first. I'm not knocking Nightfall Blue; it's quite pretty, just not what I'd had in mind. Heirloom Pink should be pinker.
J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck in Golden Topaz This was fantastic! In the picture, I'd detected a slight muddy green tone, but in person it was the ideal saffron shade.
J.Crew Teal flannel boy shirt This was lovely in person; bluer, and slightly more formal than my other 'Crew plaid shirt:

Modern waves of tragedy...
Cardigan: J.Jill Top: J.Crew Jackie shell in Dark Charcoal Necklace: gifted (freshwater "rice" pearls) Skirt: J. Crew denim pencil skirt Grey micronet stockings Shoes: Cole Haan
The Jackie shell looks greyer irl, of course, with a name like Dark Charcoal, but it does have an interesting bluish/greenish cast. I was fiddling around with a reverse look, instead of the usual light top + dark sweater.
I finished the Travel Study and Internship processing screens, and have begun the revenue share analysis reports I've done since I started in 2008.Labels: jcrew, jjill, ootd, work wardrobe
