I had just woken up from a nap on this lovely Veterans Day, and felt the usual warm gratitude. (Sorry for the cropped-ness—didn't care to capture the rubbish bin!)
A bit excited about the bag:
This is made in Los Angeles, and the leather has a sumptuous feel. It's not heavy despite the "thimble" hardware.
I have it in mind to get two bags; got an eye on this Vin Baker baby:
* Is it me? The most difficult aspect of wardrobe blog maintenance is titling the posts. A touching moment of the past week was reading some photocopied stuff from a shell scripting class I'm taking, where the guy explains that the "a" in a.out stands for "assembler"...and I was thinking, anyone can tell you that compiling a C source code file from a command line without specifying an object code filename will get you a file called a.out. I don't wear this top often, because I like it, and have seen nothing like it since I acquired it (mid-2008). I mean there have been swathes of sleeveless tops with designs in the center, and I look at them...eh...this one is special. So I've nursed it along, swapping it around with other lace tops...I have a small series:

This is as close to a monkey suit as it normally gets. We had a honchos meeting today, it was still a bit on the hot side, so I opted for the same Banana Republic top I've been pimping (since 2008 apparently):
I wear a camisole under it, but that doesn't detract from the lovely lace design (it's quite a bit prettier in real life).
What am I doing at work? Something interesting, spliced with the usual breakneck stuff-as-many-programs-before-February-as-possible...it's like that every year. There's no other way to do it, because when we're open in summer, that's all we do, and we can't upgrade stuff while it's being used. After we close, we fix the stuff we wanted to fix during the summer. Actually it's gotten a bit worse because of the recession—we can't hire extra seasonal help, so our programs have to target whoever is being sandbagged the most.
I was pleased with the honchos meeting though, in the sense of walking away with only four things to do. That means my programs are working. The four things...one could be potentially grueling though I suspect it involves a single giant file. shrugs One is less grueling but more exacting, since it has to work perfectly to avoid a deluge of international student visa-related complaints (most of which would fall on a different department). The remaining two should be reasonably simple, and just need to be done well.

Seagoon: Why don't you answer? I asked you, how much do you want for them?

She seemed to fade with it, blend with the sky and clouds, recede beyond them. I wanted to lift my voice louder than the seagulls' cries and call her back: Marilyn!
Okay, that was hella cheesy, but the story was on my mind, the light was actually kind of fading, and it's far easier to work that into a post than what I've wanted to quote for weeks:

So...I have this atrocious Lasso code I wrote, for our annual grade reports. I'd slapped it together in a hurry, tried to reform it the following year, and now it's that time of year again.
A. Do I do the fun thing, which would be to render it into spiffy PHP? That would make it easier to integrate the grade report into our new back end later on.
B. Do I do the dreary thing, which would be to figure out what the Lasso code was doing in the first place, run the grade report through, and worry about converting it to PHP later?

An exception to my own "Never shop at Banana Republic" rule: men's clothes. This is a man's shirt, albeit a small-sized one, and it's pretty cool (sort of a 1970's green).
To go with, peridot earrings I made last year.
I finished the last tracking screen today; the works is in test. Hm. I ran through them all using production data. So far it's okay, but of course you want the staff to test them. Software testers are more valuable than gold.
Should I tell my co-worker I finished the tracking screens? lol Or should I pretend to continue working on them... I finished them early, because I can do that. I'm capable of working like two or three people...both of us are, we had to do that for about a year. (I'm just joking, I already told him.)

Jojoba has a lovely makeup blog—it's the only one I read with any regularity, it's that good—perhaps it seems a bit cheesy to link to one of her non-cosmetic-related posts. But it was so funny.
At first I thought, eh, these Aussies make my life seem dull and boring. Then I realized she must refer to what we'd call "leggings" over here, only an, uh, Australian version.

On a more serious note (hard to get less serious haha), I rather enjoyed this thoughtful post on academichic.
I suppose I'm fortunate, since there's a dearth of female programmers at Berkeley. No one has a clue what we're supposed to wear, so I get to wear whatever I want to, pretty much. Programmers generally are shy, but civilized and nice to be around, so again I feel lucky.
But I like to think of the "new" female workforce as fashion pioneers. Our news media seldom mention there are now more women than men in the U.S. paid workforce, but hey, these women have to wear something!
